"Oh come on, man! Dating websites are for losers! Real men get out in

"Oh come on, man! Dating websites are for losers! Real men get out in public and meet the chicks they are interested in... they don't sit home at a computer!" Charlie was shooting his mouth off again and Dan was getting fed up with it. Charlie thought of himself as a success with women when, in reality, he couldn't keep a girlfriend. Dan knew that Charlie was one of those outgoing types that seemed to attract a lot of attention, initially, but once women got to know him, he became quite a jerk.

"Yeah, yeah, Charlie... whatever," Dan laughed back. "Think what you want. I've met a couple of amazing women on dating websites and I have absolutely no problem admitting that!" Charlie finally got tired of holding an unpopular opinion. He liked it much better when everyone was focused on his every word and he was the true centre of attention. He went on to another topic and Dan sat there, still thinking about his favorite dating websites and the women he'd met.

Dan couldn't really remember a time in his life that he had been in love. He wanted to be. He'd dated a lot and he met women regularly through work, friends and also the band he was part of in his spare time. No one had held any long-term intrigue for him, though - until he'd starting visiting and using dating websites. There was something about meeting women online that was very different than anything he had ever experienced. Outside of maybe a profile picture, the relationships were certainly not based on physical appearance. Dan was a normal, reasonably attractive guy but he hated feeling like he was being judged against the latest fashion trends or hairstyles. He wanted to get to know someone on the inside first. He was a man that was really less affected by a woman's looks than her personality and heart. He knew that made him different from the majority of his friends but it was the truth of how he felt.

Dating websites had thrown the door open on women's personalities. He had the best text conversations with people he'd met online. They could talk about everything and nothing and still have a wonderful time. Even though Dan had never had an in-person date with someone from the dating websites, he knew that it was just around the corner. His attention has begun to focus on one lady, in particular, and he was gathering up his nerve to broach the subject of meeting somewhere. It seemed funny to be nervous, since they'd been corresponding for half a year, but Dan wanted to do everything right. She already meant so much to him and he knew he wanted more. Charlie might laugh about dating sites but he'd never know the phenomenal possibilities he was missing - and Dan laughed when he realized he was never going to be the one to tell him.
