Chloe was tired of dating single guys in her home town. They all wanted the same thing -- to have a little woman at home to do the cooking, cleaning and baby-raising.
Chloe wanted more. She wanted someone handsome, exciting and a guy who was going somewhere in his life and saw "his girl" as a true partner and not just someone who was satisfied with a cuddle and peck on the cheek once in a while.
So, Chloe tried dating single men at her place of work. She tried datingsingle menthrough a club organized in her church. She even tried dating single men that her friends thought were a perfect match for her but none of her dating single men panned out.
Chloe decided the only way to find her Prince Charming was to stop looking. So, she went on her merry way. She threw herself into her work, she volunteered her time and worked for a half-dozen groups in her community, and she took up a new hobby to pass the time.
Soon, Chloe had no time to sit and feel sorry for herself. Her talents and dedication to a job well done were in high demand. She made dozens of new friends of all ages, backgrounds and interests. Her new friends invited her to their work, neighbourhood and family functions. One even gave her a dog she named "Max" which Chloe soon enrolled in a dog obedience class.
Max and Chloe were inseparable. Max was a smart dog and he doted, just like Chloe, on a job well done. Soon the two of them were fixtures at local agility trials. Chloe beamed with pride every time Max completed his rounds flawlessly and in record time.
Max eagerly performed his duties and lived for the attention and praise Chloe lavished on him. Others in the kennel club circuit noticed the wonderful bond dog and master had forged and watched in admiration and awe as time after time, the two broke all records -- and hearts -- as they made their rounds.
One day, Chloe came home from work and instead of Max meeting her at the door, tail wagging, he was no where to be found. Chloe looked all over her flat for Max and could not find him. "Where could he have gone?" she thought, getting more panicked by the moment at the thought he was sick. She found him under the stairs, cowering at the sound of the fierce thunderstorm that was raging outside.
